एका गावात एक मुलगी राहात असते. तिला चार मित्र असतात.

त्यापैकी चौथ्या मित्रावर ती जिवापाड प्रेम करत असते. त्याला ती नेहमी मोठमोठ्या भेटवस्तू देत असते. जगातली सर्वांत महत्त्वाची गोष्ट त्याला मिळायला हवी, असा तिचा कटाक्ष असे.

त्या खालोखाल तिसऱ्या मित्रावरही ती प्रेम करत असते. त्याला ती नेहमी शेजारची राज्ये दाखवत असते; मात्र, ते बघून तो आपल्याला कधीतरी सोडून जाईल अशी भीती तिच्या मनात नेहमीच असते.

दुसऱ्या मित्रावरही ती प्रेम करत असते....तिचा दुसरा मित्र अतिशय निष्ठावान असतो. तिची संपत्ती, तिची मालमत्ता राखण्यात त्याचा मोठा सहभाग असतो.

तिचा पहिला मित्र ...त्याचा आत्मविश्‍वास वाखाणण्यासारखा असतो. मनाने तो खूप प्रेमळ, दयाळू आणि संयमी असतो. तो तिला नेहमी समजून घेत असतो. ती जेव्हा कधी संकटात सापडते, काही समस्या तिला भेडसावतात; तेव्हा तेव्हा ती आपले मन त्याच्याकडे मोकळे करते. तोही तिला समजून घेतो, त्यातून बाहेर पडण्याचा मार्ग सांगतो.

तरीही, तिला तो फारसा आवडत नसतो. तो मात्र तिच्यावर खूप मनापासून प्रेम करत असतो. ती क्वचितच त्याची दखल घेत असते.


एक दिवस ती मुलगी आजारी पडते. उपचारांचाही काही परिणाम होत नाही. आपल्याकडे खूप कमी वेळ आहे, हे तिच्या लक्षात येते. तिच्या मनात विचार येतो, ""माझ्याकडे भरपूर संपत्ती आहे. माझे जिवाभावाचे चार मित्र आहेत; पण जेव्हा माझा मृत्यू होईल, तेव्हा मी एकटीच असेन.'' या विचारांनी ती अस्वस्थ होते.

ती आपल्या सर्वांत आवडत्या चौथ्या मित्राला म्हणते, ""मी तुझ्यावर सर्वाधिक प्रेम केले. जगातल्या सर्वांत मौल्यवान भेटी मी तुला सतत दिल्या. तुझी खूप काळजी घेतली. आता माझा अंतकाळ जवळ आला आहे. तू माझ्याबरोबर येशील ना? माझी साथ करशील ना?''

""अजिबात नाही,'' असे म्हणून आणखी काहीही न बोलता तो मित्र निघून जातो.

त्याचे हे बोलणे तिचे काळीज चिरत जाते.

त्यानंतर ती मुलगी तिसऱ्या मित्राकडे येते. ""आयुष्यभर मी तुझ्यावर प्रेम केले. आता मी काही दिवसांचीच सोबती आहे. तू माझ्याबरोबर येशील ना?''
तिच्या या बोलण्यावर तो थंडपणे "नाही' म्हणतो. ""जीवन खूप सुंदर आहे. तू गेल्यानंतर मी दुसऱ्या मुलीबरोबर लग्न करीन.''

त्याच्या या बोलण्यावर ती निराश होते.

आपली निराशा लपवत ती दुसऱ्या मित्राकडे येते. ""तू निष्ठेने माझ्या संपत्तीचे आणि मालमत्तेचे रक्षण केलेस... यावेळीही तसाच वागशील ना? येशील ना माझ्याबरोबर?''

""मी तुझ्याबरोबर जास्तीत जास्त दफनभूमीपर्यंत येऊ शकेन. त्यापुढे नाही.''

त्याच्या या उत्तराने ती मुलगी पुरती कोलमडून जाते. काय करावे तिला कळत नाही.

... तेवढ्यात एक आवाज येतो, ""मी येईन तुझ्याबरोबर. तू जिथे जाशील, तिथे मी येईन.''

ती मुलगी आवाजाच्या दिशेने बघते, तर समोर तिचा पहिला मित्र असतो.. पोषणाअभावी, दुर्लक्षामुळे खूप अशक्त झालेला.
मुलगी म्हणते, ""मी खरेतर तुझी खूप काळजी घ्यायला हवी होती; पण आता वेळ निघून गेली आहे.''


………………………………. वास्तवातही, या मुलीप्रमाणे आपलेही चार मित्र असतात.


आपला चौथा मित्र म्हणजे शरीर. त्याचे आपण कितीही कौतुक केले, कितीही चोचले पुरवले, तरीही मरणाच्या वेळी ते आपले साथ सोडते.

आपला तिसरा मित्र म्हणजे, आपले कुटुंबीय आणि मित्रपरिवार. ते आपल्या कितीही जवळचे असले, तरी आपली सोबत ते जास्तीत जास्त दफनभूमीपर्यंतच करू शकतात.

दुसरा मित्र म्हणजे, आपली मालमत्ता, संपत्ती, आपली पत- प्रतिष्ठा. आपल्या मरणानंतर हे सगळे आपोआप दुसऱ्याचे होते.

आणि पहिला मित्र म्हणजे कोण?
आपला पहिला मित्र म्हणजे आपला आत्मा. सत्ता, संपत्ती, भौतिक सुखे मिळविण्याच्या नादात त्याच्याकडे नेहमीच दुर्लक्ष होते. खरे तर आत्मा ही अशी एकमेव गोष्ट आहे, जी नेहमी आपल्याबरोबर असते. शेवटपर्यंत आपली साथ करते.

A girl used to live in a village. She had four friends. She loved her 4th friend the most. She always presented costly gifts to him. She has provided all the worldly pleasures to him. Her only endeavor was to give him the best of the world. She pampered him like anything.

She loved her 3rd friend slightly less than her 4th friend. She always likes to roam with him and like to go places. She had an innate fear that her 3rd friend will leave her one day.

She loved her 2nd friend one bit less than her 3rd friend. Her second friend was loyal to her. He was one, who always took care of her property and things with utmost care.

She loved her 1st friend the least. Her 1st friend was kind, composed and full of love. He was always with her. He always understood her very well and always supported her in her good and bad times. He was very confident.

One day she fell ill and medical treatment failed to cure her disease. Soon she realizes that she has very few days left on earth. She was thinking that, she owns huge property and money, she has four friends, however if she dies, then she will be left alone.

She turns to her 4th friend and said, “Since I used to love you the most, has provided you with all worldly pleasures. As I am about to die, will you remain with me in my moments of death.” Her 4th friend says no and simply leaves her. She feels extreme pain, while she listened to the answer of his beloved friend.

Now she turns to her 3rd friend and says” Whole of my life I have loved you, will u accompany me in my moments of death.” He curtly says no and leaves. She was left hopeless with the answer.

Then she turns toward her 2nd friend and said, “You as a loyal person has preserved and protected my property, money and other belongings. Will u accompany me in my last moments.” He said, I will accompany you till you are cremated. I will leave you, once you die and going to find another girl

Now she is afraid and fail to understand what to do, what to ask and whom to ask. Suddenly, she hears a voice, “I will be with you all the time wherever you go.” She looks and found that the voice is of her 1st friend.

She said, “I am sorry that I didn't care about you at all. I would have given you the utmost attention and time, but it’s too late now.”


Like her, all of us have four friends in our lives.

Our 4th friend is our body. We do everything for it and pamper it...it is going to leave us any way one day

Our 3rd friend is member of our family, relatives and friends. They will only accompany you till you are cremated

Our 2nd friend is all our material things from property to car and whatever physical...after you die it becomes somebody else

Now who is our ultimate true friend who is 1st one.... it is your Soul...which never leaves us. The crux is we always tend to disregard our own soul in quest of getting material things
