smartcancerian,
There is a case for both bullish & bearish scenarios when one takes PE into consideration. I keep track of NIFTY PE vs DIV YLD chart (attached here) and I see that PE has been going down since end of 2010, has gone sideways since end of 2011 and looks like has bottomed in May 2012. Now one can say that PE will keep rising as it has bottomed since it has fallen quite a lot since 2012 but one can also make the case for a further fall to the levels seen at 2008 market bottom.
The way I see it...a rise from here will mean a good bullish move followed by a long dragging bear market (after PE reaches the highs) OR a fall from here to around 2008 lows from where a long bull market can start. Only time will tell.... _________________ Srikanth Kurdukar

Good one ST but please plot PE vs. nifty chart if possible because long term investment begins when PE is less than 10 if company fundamentals are good for at least 5 years, which is anyway the case for most of nifty stocks. Even as nifty dropped from early 2008, earnings have shown a growth of about 11% since then. Couple that with inflation and $-INR rate and we see much higher levels in long term. Presently PEs of some stocks are not attractive. Also, one should ignore public sector stocks including banks. Add to that possible rerating of India (-ve) and some stocks/sectors (+ve) and we will see interesting rotation in investment. |

I will try and post the chart - PE vs NIFTY - later. But you lost me on the rest of the stuff you posted. _________________ Srikanth Kurdukar
