Banks must be strict with wilful defaulters: Chidambaram

Public sector banks should deal strictly with wilful defaulters to check non-performing assets (NPAs) while being sympathetic towards borrowers facing difficulties, Finance Minister P Chidambaram said today.

Can I take this opportunity to say you are an Idiot Mr.Chidambaram, the unelected but self-appointed FM of India.

Those who are willing to accept bank defaults should be dealt with calm and appreciation to move forward and encourage others and those who don't should be considered for a stringent measure.

P.S. welcome to the brown club Pkholla.

1 Thanks, Apka, for noticing brown kapda
2 Is Lungi ready to check bank officers for assets totally out of proportion to salary? He may be shocked, on the other hand he may not!
3 An officer from "special community" was approached by Harshad Mehta, he is rumored to have amassed Rs 50?/ 100? /250? cr by helping HM get "Empire Bank" loans, he took VRS as AGM just around the time HM was exposed by Times special correspondent Sucheta Dalal. Ex- officer safe from prosecution, belonging to "special community"
(I wonder how much credit was siphoned by HM because, some time after his arrest, a flat was raided in Vile Parle and Rs 250 cr stocks were found in unlocked cupboard. HM, in jail, said he didnt remember this flat but the shares may be his, and please add to his khata!?)
4 Wonder how many 10- lakh patis are there in banks after helping Bevda get totally ridiculous amounts as loans for items already taken on lease (eg plane) and providing 5% of loan as asset for security
Aise bahut se examples hain if Chiddu/ Kumbakarna/ Rip van Winkle etc want to open eyes and take action

Subbarao hits out at govt; blames it for rupee dip, crisis

"...there has been a growing tendency to attribute all of this (ferocity of rupee depreciation) to the 'tapering' of ultra easy monetary policy by the US Fed. Such a diagnosis, I believe, is misleading," he said in his last public lecture as RBI Governor.

Blaming the "loose fiscal stance of government during 2009-12" for slow growth and high inflation, he said, "Had the fiscal consolidation been faster, it is possible that monetary policy calibration could have been less tight."

"Reducing the CAD requires structural solutions - RBI has very little policy space or instruments to deliver the needed structural solution. They fall within the ambit of the government."

Subbarao, however said, that in the interim "we need to stabilise the market volatility, a task that falls within the domain of the Reserve Bank."

"Our efforts over the last few years, particularly the last three months, have been to smoothen volatility as the exchange rate adjusts to its market-determined level so as to make the near-term cost of adjustment less onerous for firms, households and banks," he said.

"But our actions were consistent. Our capital account measures were aimed at encouraging inflows and discouraging outflows. Also, we tightened liquidity at the short end to raise the cost of short-term money so as to curb volatility," he said.

BJP on PM's speech: Who has patience for Q2? We may be dead! : BJP leader Yashwant Sinha, a former finance minister criticises the PM's speech. Invoking RBI's governor Subbarao's statement, he said he agreed that the UPA government is to be blamed for the economic downturn and the falling rupee.

Sinha says, "The PM's speech has no content. He has just used words without meaning. There is nothing new in his speech. It will disappoint people who have been hoping for some good news."

On being asked to comment on the PM's statement that the second half of the fiscal year will show growth, Sinha smiled and said, "We will be patient for manna to fall from heaven. What else can we do? Every time the PM says wait for the next quarter, but nothing happens.

"The PM said growth in the first quarter is expected to be relatively flat; what does he mean? Brace yourself, we are in for very difficult times. Who has seen the second quarter? We may be dead by then. If it doesn't materialeise, will the FM or PM come and explain why there will be no change? I want to say the PM's speech was most disappointing and frustrating."

No, Mr.PM, but we do know of a PM who is asked to speak but keeps mum and distances himself from taking the stance of a leader to speak. Cartoons are made of about his silence and who once himself said silence is required.

Quote:
LIVE! PM: Have you heard of a situation where the PM is not allowed to speak!: An angry PM speaks in the Rajya Sabha on the criticism over his state of the economy address in Parliament an hour ago. This is the first time the PM is visibly angry in Parliament.

He said the opposition is wrong about investors losing confidence. "If you are worried about investor confidence, your conduct in Parliament is important," he said

Opposition MPs in both houses raised a ruckus when Dr Singh began speaking in Parliament. "Have you heard of a situation where the PM is not allowed to speak in Parliament," he thunders.

He said the Opposition has to realise its role in Parliament.

To the continuing disruptions in Parliament over the missing Coal-gate files, the PM says, "I am no the custodian of files in the coal ministry."

".....I am no the custodian of files in the coal ministry."

And we idiots thought that PM is custodian of entire nation.

BJP asks for early polls, govt unable to handle economy crisis

August 30, 2013 15:02
BJP senior leader LK Advani says the party has given a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee asking for early polls. "I have suggested that the general elections be held early," he said.

Advani said the state of the economy is so that the government is unable to handle the situation and should therefore step down. He said early polls could be a way out to handle the crisis.

This govt has systematically broken the spine of the country, here read it for enlightenment:

"An economics professor at a local college made a statement that he had never failed a single student before, but had recently failed an entire class.

That class had insisted that congress food security bill will worked and that no one would sleep without food. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on congress plan". All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A.... (that means tax collected from us will be used for food security bill expenses. i.e equally distribution).

After the first test, the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset and the students who studied little were happy. As the second test rolled around, the students who studied little had studied even less and the ones who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too so they studied little.

The second test average was a D! No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around, the average was an F. As the tests proceeded, the scores never increased as bickering, blame and name-calling all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for the benefit of anyone else. To their great surprise, ALL FAILED and the professor told them that socialism would also ultimately fail because when the reward is great, the effort to succeed is great, but when government takes all the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed. These are possibly the 5 best sentences you'll ever read and all applicable
to this experiment:

1. You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity.
2. What one person receives without working for, another person must work for without receiving.
3. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else.
4. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it!
5. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for, that is the beginning of the end of any nation.

Can you think of a reason for not sharing this? Neither could I....."

Clear cut economy's current position and Govt's wrong decisions and measures undertaken as explained by Yashwant Sinha which were seeded in 2008-2009 by the Govt to win elections (just like this time food security bill, etc.) and is showing it's result today. Click and see why this concerns everyone and why you should be worried. We could easily have a 1991 crisis again:

The way the Govt. is thinking, we may be in for a line soon to fillup petrol/diesel and heed of traffic in the mornings:

Quote:
09:17 Govt proposes to shut petrol pumps at night:
The government is considering various proposals including shutting petrol pumps in the night to taper fuel demand as it looks at ways to cut the massive oil import bill, Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily said Sunday, drawing a sharp reaction from BJP.

"There are various options and ideas that have been floated. Shutting petrol pumps during night is one of them. But we have not decided. It is just a proposal," Moily told PTI from Bangalore.

His ministry plans to launch a massive fuel conservation drive from September 16 to cut fuel demand by 3 percent and save an estimated Rs 16,000 crore or USD 2.5 billion in forex outgo.

The oil import bill is being trimmed to bring down current account deficit.

"Shutting petrol pump is an idea that has come to us. We have not adopted it. It is not my view," Moily said.

Reacting sharply, BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said, "Why petrol pump? Government will close the country... Won't the people fill their car fuel tanks in the morning. This is a strange move by Moily".

Is petrol used as a luxury at nights? The transportation / goods carrier would have to just park it if short on diesel and thereby add to delay in various deliverables.

Factory activity shrinks in August for first time in 4-1/2 years

Indian factory activity shrank for the first time in more than four years last month, adding to the country's deepening economic malaise even as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) struggles to defend the battered rupee currency, a survey showed.

ReutersThe bleak Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) comes hard on the heels of data on Friday that showed Asia's third-largest economy grew at it slowest quarterly rate in the three months to June since the global financial crisis, suggesting more pain ahead.

The HSBC Manufacturing PMI, compiled by Markit, sank to 48.5 in August from 50.1 in July, the lowest reading since March 2009. Economists polled by Reuters had expected a far shallower fall to 49.9.

The index, which gauges business activity in Indian factories but not utilities, had been close to the 50 mark that separates growth from contraction since May but falling orders dragged it under last month.

"Manufacturing activity contracted in August for the first time since March 2009. This was led by a decline in new orders, especially export orders," said Leif Eskesen, chief economist for India at survey sponsor HSBC.

The survey showed new export orders shrank for the first time in a year.

In a sign that domestic demand is also faltering, new orders, which include domestic orders, shrank at a faster pace. The index fell for the sixth straight month to 47.5 in August, its lowest since February 2009.

11:35 AM LIVE! PM, FM reject 8 am - 8 pm petrol pump curfew : PM Dr Manmohan Singh has thankfully rejected the proposal to restrict the timings of petrol pumps. Petroleum minister Veerappa Moily had proposed that petrol pumps be kept open from 8am to 8pm to save fuel as the economy reels under a stagnating GDP of 4.4 per cent.

Finance minister P Chidambaram met the PM in the wake of Moily's proposal. Moily has now clarified that the proposal came from the oil ministry and not the government. The FM says the petrol curfew will send a bad signal to the industry.

11:36 AM Ignore US ire, import Iran oil to save $8.5bn, Veerappa Moily suggests: The Manmohan Singh government will have to tread on a diplomatic tightrope with oil minister M Veerappa Moily suggesting India may save nearly $8.5 billion (around Rs 57,000 crore) by importing cheaper crude from Iran, which faces UN sanctions in the wake of its nuclear programme.

What about the loss of vital information already occurred in the last 8 years of use?

Which other country's govt is stupid enough to rely on outside medium/servers to communicate vital information?
