How to calculate EMA value
Regarding calculation of EMA... follow the following steps or search it on google.

1. Decide which EMA value, you want to calculate.. Suppose you want to calculate EMA 50

2. add 1 with 50, so it is 51. now devide 2 by 51 which 0.039216 ---- this is your multiplier value.

3. now deduct previous EMA value from Close price, multiple it with mulitiplier value

4. add previous ema value to answer of step 3, so you will get latest ema.

for eg. IF previous EMA is 6135 and Close Price is 5904, then your formula will be

= [(5904 -6135)*0.039216] + 6135

If you start with new EMA series.. Take Previous EMA as Close price as per Previous Period

hello biznet I think that excel sheet calculates 20-day MA.
But viraj asked for DMA = displaced moving average.
Kindly go through http: // t a - l i b . o r g for a nice Add-In which helps to calculate commonly used technical indicators in excel sheet.
For that you have to make some practice by downloading historical data in excel from nse site.

Viraj5: Why waste time, energy and bheja trying to calculate DMA when ICharts if there to do it for you?
In J Charts Premium see the 2 levels of symbols just above main chart. 3rd box on 2nd row is DMA (What you want)
Here you can specify (1) Arith ave or Exponent ave, (2) Period of average, (3) Period of displacement, (4) Displace to left or right
I have found that 8 period MA, 3 period displ, to left, works for me in intraday. You can change settings to find your optimum (eg dis to right is probably better for daily chart)
