reversible SL is set at 5230. If NF goes below 5230, go short.

Vinst,

Three questions :
1. Do you place trades at end of day or during the day. That is do you wait for the day's candle to close and then determine whether it has crossed 8EMA or do you enter 'whenever' price cuts 8EMA during the day.
2. How do you handle choppy markets when entry one day may result in reversal the next.
3. How do you set SL / Trailing SL ?

Regards,
Oppo

Oppo,

this method is not EOD 8/34 ema method. The method I am following is based on 30min TF and explained in posts made during Nov-2011

Trade 21 short initiated at 5230.

Hi,

In your post in Nov'11, you mentioned the following.

I use 3 moving averages: 4sma, 17sma, 34ema on time frame 30minutes.
when all three MA's are in sequence, trades are placed on violating immediately previous 5 bar pivot which is yet not covered by price

Can you please help me understand what you meant by the following:-

"trades are placed on violating immediately previous 5 bar pivot which is yet not covered by price"

Based on your inputs can we take a long today at 09:30AM close since the crossover happened on the long side.

reversible SL is 5325. If NF above 5325, go long.

How do you calculate the SL which I understand you calculate after entering the trade.

How did you arrive at NF 5325 as SL.

previous 5 bar pivot which is yet not covered by price. What does this mean?

Thanks,

NF is long. If it drops below 5270, close long (no shorts here)

i was following your positions ..... its good ... but one thing is .... still 8 , 34 ema strategy is continuing its short position whithin which your system gave a sell signal , then buy signal ...and now sell signal again ..... i mean no offence ..... its just discussion ..... i also want to avoid as many whipsaw as possible ..... but these are the part of the trading.

The purpose of my thought is to know from you if you know any big disadvantage 8, 34 ema trading for which you might changed your trading system ... something similar but not same?

Thanks

I am following 30min time frame. Are you taking 8, 34 ema on 30min timeframe or daily timeframe?

8,34 ema on daily chart EOD ....
only 12th April .... Nifty-1M closed few point above 8 ema .... so it gave a book short signal..... but the fact is it never gave a buy signal ........ this is because it is on longer time frame ......

it is well known .... longer time frame laways gives less whipsaw ..... but you choosed 30 min !! there must be some advantage of 30 min timeframe chart or there must be some disadvantage you felt after using 8,34 ema on daily chart !
if you please explain!!

Thanks

It is not so much about which system is more profitable.
I tried to test 8,34 ema as per vijaykannan and posted my results. But recd no clarification about correctness of my understanding. then i had to leave that method.
In case you can post the 8,34 method on daily TF with 2-3 examples, I'd be thankful.

It is an interesting thread. Please clarify how to use this EMA 8,34. i.e.
1. Can it be used in intraday 2 minutes or 1 minute or 5 minute charts.
or It should be used only in EOD. What amount of stop and target be fixed. Please clarify on this.

@vinst

it can be seen in EOD charts Premium easily with 8 , 34 in daily TF ... i don't know how to post the pic .... ok i am trying ... will upload as soon as possible.

By the way i have gone through your oldest in this topic ..... there are advantages and disadvantages in all the system ...... and also i know this is not going to be 60 crore ...... but this system is simple and that makes it great.
