The second advance estimates of crop production for 2010-11 released by Ministry of Agriculture has projected India's foodgrain production at 232.07 mn MT during 2010-11 vs. 218.11 mn MT 2009-10. This is only marginally below the record production of 234.47 mn MT of foodgrains in 2008-09.
India is forecasted to achieve record production of:
1. wheat 81.47 mn MT
2. pulses (16.51 mn MT)
3. cotton (339.27 lakh bales of 170 kg. each)
Further production of:
1. Rice to increase 5.5% to 94.01 mn MT in 2010-11 vs. 89.13 mn MT in 2009-10.
2. Wheat to increase 0.9% to to 81.47 mn MT.
3. Coarse cereals to increase 18.7% in output to 40.08 mn MT in 2010-11
4. Maize to increase 20.1% to 20.03 mn MT.
The output of pulses to increase 13.2% to 16.51 mn MT
Cash crops:
The production of oilseeds is forecasted to increase 11.7% to 27.85 mn MT with sharp 23.6% increase.
Production of soybean to increase 4.2% to 10.47 mn MT.
Output of cotton to surge 41.8% to record level of 33.93 mn bales of 170 kg each.
