Thanks to both of the gentlemen who gave me link to PE ratio of SENSEX and NIFTY.
What is the level of PE where we can call these indices to be overpriced and/or underpriced? |

Helo Sir,
Below 10 to 13 is totally an underpriced one sir. Above 21 and 28 plus zone is completely an over priced zone sir. Accordingly, One can make an entry and exit from the market sir. At the same time, Once 28 plus zone get crossed even hold from there for quite some time, Then, we may even come across 36 PE to 64 PE even its just because of consistency in CAGR growth rate with uniform performances of SENSEX 30 AND NIFTY 50 STOCKS sir. A very very classic example for the same was " Brazil's Bovespa Index " sir.
With regards,
(R.S. NAGESH)
P.S.: I REALLY DISLIKE REALTY STOCKS INTO THE MAIN INDEX CONSTITUENTS LISTS ESPECIALLY IN BOTH NIFTY AS WELL AS IN SENSEX SIR. THESE STOCKS MUST BE KEPT OUT FROM THE INDICES LISTS. MAIN REASON BEHIND IS, THESE STOCKS ARE SEASONALLY RELATED ONE. EARNINGS OF THESE STOCKS ARE TOTALLY A SEASONAL DRIVEN ONE. THAT IS WHY, THESE STOCKS MUST BE KEPT OUT FROM THE INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNISED NATIONAL INDICES. |

dear rsnagesh sir, realestate is also one major indicator of a country's economy. realestate flouris only when economy is good. i do not see why realestate companies can not be included in index.

My TWO Cents on PE
PE Ratio is one of the most useless ratio. Based on each sector, the ratio to be used changed.
One of the best ratio for fundamental analysis is EV to EBIDTA. Else all is joke. PE ratio is something overhyped by media.
Each sector will have its own constituents. Plus, the PE ratio mentioned on NSE and BSE is Trailing PE which carries less significance and measure Index or any stock based on PE would be a "forward PE", meaning what is quoted as FY2010e PE or FY2011e PE where "e" denotes "expected". This would be calculated based on analyst expectation for forward EPS of the companies. For NIFTY it will be based on Forward Earning of 50 companies which will be based on market capitalization weight.
Use PE at your own discretion..
