Head-in-the -sand and clogged ears wont help .... ,ultimately public is paying.

The article cited seems to say that every one has been taxed. How does it relate to our debate here? Since neither peter not paul have been tax-spared, how should we conclude that FM is trying to mis-lead public/people with that 50,000 limit?

FM is just doing his job .... and pretending to be deaf is not going to work.

LIC has been 'conned'(as per the article) into buying ONGC ,but there is more stake sale -- 30000 crore -- lined up for FY 13.

Was LIC reluctant ? why? They are not smart ?

How much can LIC alone do ? Dont forget LIC buys with the premium money collected from public that buys insurance.

Public (salaried middle class specifically) participation is essential to off load 30k crore? How can they be 'induced'/FORCED ?

One way is to make gold expensive (BY CUSTOM DUTY LAW)and then SIMULTANEOUSLY make it easy to own equity( BY TAX LAW) esp what the government wants to sell.

You STILL dont get it , vinst ? LAW is being pushed through in the budget to achieve the above objective.

While Nifty is sliding , the FEAR index VIX is going towards complacency levels.

Notice that ?

What does it imply ? Big move coming up ?

Budget can push the law, why not? It would be going thru parliament.
Reliance people induced the public thru endless mergers/spin-offs, they were called masters who understand how to raise money. Umpteen others follow much worse tactics. However, govt has only announced smallish tax rebate.
Believe me, Ajay, 2% customs duty won't do even as much harm as a harmless butterfly sitting on someone's hand. People have been buying Gold though its price increased 20%-30% in a few months. 2% duty hike would be forgotten by next month (except by the two of us Smile )

vinst : here's more to whet your appetite for argument :

http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/markets/commodities/jewellers-extend-strike-for-2-more-days-over-gold-duty-hike/articleshow/12340407.cms

You said no one listens to the FM ? Now you will say jewellers are aliens from other planet etc.. and 1-2% has no effect ???

You can join them in protest or turn a deaf ear.

I dont buy your argument ... if reliance can do this , tata can do that ,birla can do this, government can do whatever ..... and you will stay out of hearing range. Laughing

Let these jewellers go on strike for a few days. The middle class which we are discussing can wait for 2 more days.
Take this now: My neighbour want to buy more gold since govt has started custom duty hikes (probably may continue ?)., so gold price may further increase in India.

That is a tough question anand!

All I can say is first we need 2/3 closes above 5400. Then we should see more fireworks.

I would have preferred higher volumes than what we see till this hour. Lets see if we get them by EOD or tomorrow .
