Hey...I am not backing the jewelers !

I just wrote that the budget ruling, that seemed insignificant to many readers , will have an impact (and you can see that this lobby is very strong since it is cash rich). How often do jewelers go on strike?

The jewelers have a strong niche and they are minting money exploiting the feminine sentiment and Indian traditions.

What price do you pay for the gold ,Prakash ?

Prakash you are good with women psyche Laughing

However , the jewelers get rich by selling ornamental stuff( play with carat and making charges) and not so much by owning the gold itself ! whereas you are suggesting owning pure gold , right? So how will you get to those 20 posh cars? Clue me in

there is a jeweller in trivendrum, I don't remember his name, allows you entry in his shop only after an appointment. What an arrogance!

I think it is good strategy ...it allows you to build a loyal clientele for life and maybe generations much like the family doctor. In the past there used to be a tradition of family jeweler.

You said no one listens to the FM ? Now you will say jewellers are aliens from other planet etc.. and 1-2% has no effect ???

You can join them in protest or turn a deaf ear.

I dont buy your argument ... if reliance can do this , tata can do that ,birla can do this, government can do whatever ..... and you will stay out of hearing range. Laughing

Let these jewellers go on strike for a few days. The middle class which we are discussing can wait for 2 more days.
Take this now: My neighbour want to buy more gold since govt has started custom duty hikes (probably may continue ?)., so gold price may further increase in India.

Looks like the jewelers are not giving up , are they??? ...18 days and counting

let them count till two digits get over. The middle class will wait. btw: lots of jewellers are open. Strike is only for newspapers to fill space.

Chaps going on strike for 2% excise duty hike ? Not at all.
They are on strike to avoid tax entries.

I have tested/melted gold from three different 'family' 'very khandaani' jewellers and proved to the different senior generation families that they were being looted for at least two generations.
Now they insist upon Hallmark marking. But no idea how genuine are the markings. However, I have made it a habit to test gold from one jewellers to be tested by another inspite of Hallmark markings.

True vinst ...I have seen numerous cases of looting trusting/naive families thru generations. So thats why its a good (looters') strategy to insist on appointment and build the ambience....they were called 'saraf'(?) if I am not mistaken...

Earlier jewelers would keep their wealth hidden from the public eye and mingle with the 'prey'. No longer...the new gen wants to show off..

my close friend is a jeweller and he admitted to me that all of them have been passing on 22 carat gold for a 23/24 carat gold for decades. So if you want to sell jewellery, remember you will get 10% less than the value of 24 carat gold.

We are Indians and we will cheat in hallmark also.

Ajay: Are you LOL and ROFL at my expense? A 1000 fools rush in to buy the ornamental stuff anyway with copper/silver based joints THEN the "SHINY" jeweller buys new flat/office/limo. You should see the heavy rush to get in on auspicious days. (0800-2000, no lunch break!) Akshay Tritiya was invented by a jeweller. There sure is a new sucker born every minute in Bharat Mahan. I was only advocating opening our women's eyes about the racket! Rgds Prakash Holla

Prakash ...opening women's eyes on such matters is an uphill task due to psychological, social pressure and traditional reasons,,but if we keep up the evidence based inputs , we may succeed.

.... a report by the Bank of Portugal showed commercial banks tapped a record EUR 56.3B from the European Central Bank, and the heightening risk for contagion may ultimately produce a bearish breakdown in the EURUSD as it threatens the range carried over from the previous month......

"The improvement in the labor market over the past year -- especially the decline in the unemployment rate -- has been faster than might have been expected, given that the economy during that time appears to have grown at a relatively modest pace," Bernanke told the National Association for Business Economics on Monday.

Government numbers show the U.S. economy has added more than 200,000 jobs each month since January, and the unemployment rate has fallen to 8.3% from 9% in just five months. Meanwhile, the U.S. economy has been growing relatively slowly, most recently at a mere 3% annual pace.

Bernanke called those figures a 'puzzle.' For the unemployment rate to fall that significantly, the economy should have been growing much more quickly.

Mr Bernanke There is no puzzle. Businesses are engaging people anticipating recovery ( The boosting of you people added the confidence factor for them). The US economy is not growing in tune with employment rise. World economy is in fact shrinking.

Once employers realize that there businesses are not expanding as anticipated then they will fire the hired people. In such case the rise in unemployment may again surprise you. Then you may need to give a reverse statement like this For the unemployment rate to rise that significantly, the economy should have been falling much more quickly.

The above write up was posted on 27th March Now look at this news..... In March, the economy added a mere 120,000 jobs, marking the first time since November that job growth fell below 200,000.
Once this trend reversal continues expect a QE3 announcement from FED with which China will be delighted.

QE3 will come only after developed markets fall by 5-10%
